At ten weeks the following tests are ordered:
At twelve weeks of pregnancy an ultrasound is organized for nuchal translucency screen. This is correlated with the maternal serum-screening test to give a risk ratio for chromosomal abnormality.
At twenty weeks an ultrasound is organized for foetal anatomy screening.
At twenty-eight weeks you will be tested for gestational diabetes (please allow two hour) and have your iron levels rechecked.
A vaginal swab is taken to exclude Group B Streptococcal infection.
If you are Rhesus Negative, your antibody levels are checked and an injection of Anti D organized. This is repeated at thirty-four weeks.
After the initial consultation at around eight to ten weeks, you will be seen every four weeks until twenty-eight weeks, then fortnightly till thirty-six weeks and weekly until delivery. More frequent visits are required when problems arise.
From time to time, as problems arise, admission to hospital may be required during the pregnancy. Please remember that although you may feel perfectly well the hospital admission will be in the interest of both mother and baby.
Fees for consultation are displayed prominently in the consulting rooms. Surgical fees are billed directly to the Health Insurance Provider. There is sometimes an out-of-pocket co-payment varying up to $400.00, depending on the complexity of surgery. Patients are advised, in writing, during the consultation, the amount of gap payment. This is billed directly after surgery.
Fees for uninsured patients are advised by reception staff upon request. Obstetric fees are available from reception and are advised at the initial consultation with Dr Lawrence.
